America East Conference
From Varsity Pride
The America East Conference is a non-football Division I conference which was created in 1979 as one of three ECAC off-shoots. Boston University, Canisius, Colgate, Holy Cross, Maine, New Hampshire, Niagara, Northeastern, Rhode Island, and Vermont comprised the original lineup of the ECAC North. Twice the conference has faced mass defections; in 1989 several teams left to join the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and in 2001 others departed for the Colonial Athletic Association.
