The Holiday Bowl is a bowl game held at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California since 1978.
The bowl began as the home bowl for the Western Athletic Conference champion, with an opponent chosen at-large. This lasted until 1994; from 1995-1997, the Cotton Bowl had its choice of either the WAC champion or a team from the Pacific 10 Conference, with the Holiday Bowl getting the other option. Also in 1995, the Big 8 Conference became the designated opponent, a tie-in which (via the Big 12 Conference) continues to the present. Beginning in 1998, the Pac-10 replaced the WAC as the home conference; the Pac-10/Big 12 matchup has remained stable ever since.
