NAIA District 12 Men's Basketball

NAIA District 12 primarily consisted of NAIA schools in the Dakotas. In 1974, the Montana schools were reassigned to the district from District 5, and remained until the abolition of district qualification.

When the NAIA split into divisions in 1992, the entire district competed in Division II.

There is no primary sources for information on this district.

Formats

1951; 1971-73: Four-team playoff

1966-1970: Three-team playoff with a Best-of-three final. Team that drew bye to the championship series rotated.

1974-75: Six-team format

1976-85: Four-team format. Teams qualified through conference and regional tournaments.

1986-87: Sixteen-team format that was apparently seeded.

1988-93: Sixteen-team format with four quadrants-Northeast, Southeast, Western Dakotas, Montana
