The Southeastern Louisiana University Lions compete as members of the Southland Conference in NCAA Division I FCS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Southeastern Louisiana is a public institution located in Hammond, Louisiana, just north of and across Lake Ponchartrain from New Orleans. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 15,000.

SLU is located just north of downtown Hammond, at the intersection of LA 3234 (University Avenue) and Oak Street. Exit 32 off I-55 is the exit for University Avenue; the campus is a mile to the east. Strawberry Stadium is on the south side of campus on Western Avenue between Oak Street and General Pershing Street. University Center sits at the corner of General Pershing and University Avenue, on the northwest quadrant.

Southeastern Louisiana lacks a true signature rivalry. Their primary rival is probably Nicholls State.

SLU has had 14 players reach the NFL, led by former Dolphins OL Maxie Williams and Browns, Chargers, and Chiefs LB Billy Andrews. No former Lions have reached the NBA or ABA. The school's most famous alumni, however, is former SportsCenter anchor and current Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, who starred for the Lady Lions basketball team.
