The State University of New York at Stony Brook Seawolves compete as an independent in NCAA Division I FCS football, and in the America East Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. Stony Brook is a public institution located in Stony Brook, New York, on the north shore of Long Island about halfway between New York City and the Hamptons. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 15,000. Stony Brook's football team left the Northeast Conference at the end of the 2006 season, and will join the Big South Conference in 2008.
