HISTORICAL CONFERENCE ALIGNMENTS

This is a work in progress. Many conferences are fairly well-documented; others are... umm... not. Any and all corrections are not only welcome, but encouraged -- but please, document your source.

Prior to the 30s, conferences were loosely organized or, in some cases, tightly disorganized. In a few cases, I have a bit of detail regarding conference memberships in "antiquity" that I'm not even inclined to try and sort out. However, I will make note of these conferences in the appropriate places.

The breakdown of the lists should be fairly obvious. Defunct conferences are placed in the appropriate list for their classification (conferences consisting primarily of teams in the NCAA University division pre-1973 in Division I, conferences consisting primarily of teams in the NCAA College division in either Division II or III, as appropriate, same story for NAIA conferences).
Under each conference heading (which will contain the conference's years of existence, as well as any former names or predecessors), the teams will be listed. First will be the current members, along with the year they joined, followed by the most recent conference they had been aligned with previously and the year they left that conference (unless they moved straight from the former to the current, in which case no year will be listed). If there is no entry following the team's first year in the conference, they were an independent previously, and had always been so.

Following the current members, separated by a dotted line, will be the former members, their years of membership, their previous conference (as above), and where they moved to when they left.
