NAIA District 24 primarily consisted of NAIA schools in Kentucky and Tennessee. In the initial alignment, the district was assigned to Kentucky. This continued until the 1965 season, when Tennessee moved in from District 27, which was assigned to Alabama. In 1976, there was a split; this time, it was the Kentucky schools being moved out to District 32.

When the NAIA split into divisions in 1992, the district split, and teams participated in both divisions. In 1993, however, the Division II schools moved to District 32.

Primary sources for information on this district during the Kentucky years include the Park City Daily News, the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Middlesboro Daily News, the Kentucky New Era, and the Harlan Daily Enterprise. In the latter portion of the Tennessee years, the Memphis Commercial Appeal was a primary source.
